Hollow Eyes
Broken people have hollow eyes that seem shadowed by the weight of unspoken burdens and silent battles. There’s an inexplicable pull that draws me toward them.
Like a fractured mirror, they reflect my own complexities in pieces, each fragment revealing a part of who I am. These fragmented reflections can leave us lost in a sea of perspectives, making it difficult to truly understand one another. Yet, despite our differences, there remains an undeniable connection—a shared understanding of the familiar ache of each other’s wounds.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowlRunning over the same old ground, what have we found? The same old fears
Year after year
I have recently realized this after witnessing the numbness, distraction, and pain in someone’s eyes—a void so similar to mine that I cannot look away. But she’s a fighter, much stronger than I ever was. I admire her resilience. However, the heart, with its limited firepower, can’t always win against the mind’s battles. The day I realized she was struggling, I was left wondering if she was really winning her battles all this time, if she was really doing okay on her own. It also made me realize how easy it is to misjudge someone’s internal struggle based on the resilience they show outwardly.
I hope that our paths intersect because I feel like watching over her as she finds her way forward. Perhaps someday, we could both discover a clearer vision of ourselves through the shared empathy and understanding that binds us.
